The consumer price index for July in Vietnam ’s capital city of Hanoi is estimated to have risen 0.77 per cent from June and soared by 10.94 per cent from 2008, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said Tuesday, citing the city’s Statistics Department.
Compared with June, all ten commodities of the basket, on which CPI calculation is based, grew, the department noted.
Costs of housing, electricity, water and fuel as well as construction materials surged 2.58 per cent, and the cost of telecom services were up 2.76 per cent, while the prices of remaining commodities rose between 0.33 per cent and 0.95 per cent, it said.
Purchasing power is accelerating thanks to the government’s efforts to boost domestic consumption demand, analysts said.
For the month, gold prices were down 0.15 per cent, whereas the U.S. dollar appreciated 1.19 per cent against the Vietnamese dong.
