After 36 years of reform and development, Vietnam’s socio-economic development has made remarkable progress. The country’s position and reputation has been increasingly improved in the world. However, Vietnam is facing several challenges in the context of increase in uncertainty of geo-political factors, complication and unpredictability of pandemics. The global economy and international financial system brings simultaneously opportunities, risks and challenges. Therefore, improving the resilience of the economy and national self-reliance is an urgent requirement, creating a foundation for recovery and sustainable development. The article aims to assess and quantify the resilience capacity of the Vietnamese economy in the aspect of economic, social and environmental pillars. After that, global and regional comparison is made. On that basis, the author proposes some policies to improve the resilience and self-reliance of the Vietnamese economy in the long term.
